I'm saying it seems like just another avenue for everyone to make money except for the merchant with the actual customer!
Those fees are outrageous.

If you already have gift certs, outsourced gift cards don't seem to add any value... especially for single-front stores. Gift cards only add value for chains, really.
They are definitely not for single-front stores. Even for small to moderate chains, they are questionable.

I'm assuming you are referring to the merchant fees? ...or the end user fees (due to expiration )

I guess the questions is ...is a card more self promoting than a gift certificate..and if a customer could "store" a $$ and recharge it on the card (which you cant due on a paper cert. except issuing them a new store credit, which they can/will/do lose) would said card be more valuable to us than the current paper gift certificate old fashioned way?
I'm guessing that a rather high percentage of cards are used only one-time.

From what I can tell, the only way you'd really gain is if enough people lost them to cover the fees charged by the manufacturer/merchant of the cards. Not sure I really like that business model.
