I'm saying the first thing they teach in boating safety course (especially when going offshore) is contingency plans! Anything that can fail... will!

The boat I am going on is the boat I went tuna fishing last year the J-Bone! With the twin HONDA VTEC 225HP 4 strokes The captain loves to have fun but safety is emphasized first! HE has been on the seas before when a storm from no where has kicked in and KNOCKED our his VHF!

So now that the J-Bone has grown up a bit and has a wife and kids MAXIMUM contingency plans are in place! All of our families know where we are going, everyone on the boat brings a cell phone, J-Bone now has a Satellite phone in addition to VHF, and cell communications, Emergency EPRIB Beacon, RADAR, emergency life boat attached...get the point

I'm saying I get all that, but I still don't understand why you have the phone on when you're fishing. Seems to me that if you're having an emergency you can turn it on and call for help...but if work wants you you could be mysteriously out of range...

I'm guessing there are no takers for the ALMS tickets this weekend?
