And you started the day with exercise rather than the frustration of sitting in a car.
One of my relocation criteria is I'd like to end up somewhere more bike friendly... Indiana does not view bike paths as valu added.

Neither is California but pockets are... my city is. Good news is that my company has purchased buildings in the city where I live. This will change a 40 minute (each way), bumper-to-bumper commute to a 10 minute bike ride.

My work facility is surrounded by largely undesirable locations, including some of the roughest neighborhoods in FW. The only good locations within 20 minutes riding would put me in an area that required me to ride on a 4 lane highway to get to work.

I don't think it's illegal on these highways. I see guys on 49 cc scooters (drunk bikes) on the same highways all the time, and they are afforded the same status as pedal bikes. The difference is they go 25-30 MPH, while I pedal 15-20.
CA is certainly an option... the huge difference in cost of living makes it a tough move though.

You suck it up, make the move, and in no time at all you've hit a balance where it all seems normal. Bear in mind, people often make more here to.
Before I moved here, I was talking to a friend here who was warning me about the prices of housing... how much more they would be than where I came from (London Ontario). My answer was, "do you have any idea of how much my house in London would be if it was nice enough to sit outside all year round? If it was an hour to Napa, Sonoma and the ocean? If somehow you could drive a car (like the S) with the top down and be comfortable all year round.
Do not sweat the cost of living. It's money well spent.

I need to get job hunting again. Still not exactly a employee's market.
