Right now I'm saying that breaking the rules and ignorance is welcome in the The Corner. (except in the coronavirus thread)

My wife asked me to remove a chair rail on our basement walls this past winter, man did that ever do a number on our drywall walls , the chair rail tore away big hunks of wall. It took me forever to get the walls smooth again with drywall compound, sanding, more compound, more sanding, on and on and on....... I'm no good drywall person but we got the walls smooth eventually.

I hate doing drywall. I have a spot in my bedroom ceiling that needs to be fixed but I just don't look up.

Right now, I’m reminded of a huge argument I had with my Dad regarding the demolition of the kitchen. It took us almost 2 weeks to remove everything down to the bare walls. The company that installed the cabinets, counter tops and appliances etc offered to do the demo for some crazy low price of like $500 or so. Dad didn’t want to spend that money (which I thought was extremely reasonable). Every trip to the dump, I was so pissed.
Same when Dad wanted to remove the popcorn ceilings.
I understand patching / sanding / painting a couple of nails from pictures on the wall, but when you are looking at a entire room of chair railings - nope. I’ll pay for someone to come in and do it.
Sometimes it’s cheaper/easier to have someone else do that crap. Less aggravating.
