To be honest...I think this experiment has more bearing on something unrelated to fuel economy.... I get sick of people who have never driven an S2000 talking to me how it is "so slow unless you rev the shit out of it". While, certainly not as much fun, I NEVER felt like Whistler's Mother driving the S. I never had a problem driving around town below VTEC... Personally, I think John's experiment has just as much to do with driveablility below VTEC range...

any thoughts?

John, it would be sacrilegious to drive around with the top up in Northern Cali and it would be equally sad not to have Dave Matthews cranking.

You have my permission to keep the top down and the music up!

Thanks guys... I was getting worried.

Jim to you point. The experiment (as I describe above in the first post) has *everything* to do with fuel economy and I could really put the top up to see haw far it could go.

BUT...

You're right... there is an interesting side observation about how comfortable and drivable it is below VTEC. It's not as much fun by a long shot but it isn't bad. It reminds me of my experience driving a '90 Miata. Underpowered but fun.

I have to admit that most of my driving is done below VTEC, and agreed that it is nowhere near as fun, its still TOTALLY driveable, and lets be honest... it gives everybody a nice loooong look at it! It's hard to get compliments when you're doing 80+MPH!!!

Any race car worth a damn has the most power in the tiope 3rd if the RPM range. The 'S' is no different. If anything, we have another 1000RPM or so to use than someone who redlines at 6 or 7k.

I say to you, John, ROCK ON!!!

i did that for a while (due to broken car) and noticed a distinct increase in mpg. unfortunately it was an unscientific study with no records to speak of so my subjective results have to be thrown out the window.

go john, in the name of science!

I'm feeling the warmth of the encouragement of friends.

I've even got an Excel sheet for my mileage experiments.
