More bad news! Emergency surgery.
I have Schatzki Ring, an obstruction of the esophagus, which causes food blockage. I've had a number of blockage episodes where all food and liquids come back up. Sometimes they've lasted for hours. Now I have a serious one that's lasted close to 24 hours. I need to have a flexible endoscope with a specialized fibre-optic camera inserted in my esophagus in order to remove the lodged food. After the obstruction is located, snares or forceps are inserted to pull the food out of the esophagus or to push it into the stomach. My family doctor, who's a gastroenterologist, is performing the surgery tomorrow at 7 AM in USC Verdugo Hills Hospital, the same place where I had my colon and bladder surgery last month. The doctor says it's a pretty "rough, dicey" procedure. I don't know how long I'll be in the hospital. Pray for me.

Well, good news! At 4 AM this morning the blockage passed and I'm OK. I just drank a glass of apple juice. I left that post up to show my state of mind last night. I was pretty worried. Now I'm just sleep deprived. Whew!
