I diversified one day ahead of Friday's market drop, at least I missed that one event if nothing else.

I just removed the charcoal emissions filter on my WRX intake air box. I can't believe the automotive world could not find a better way to deal with vehicle fumes after shutdown. This thing has to be overly restrictive, I've seen on some youtube testing that a Subaru crosstrek gained 3-4 hp just by removing the extra filter, that must be worth 5-6 on the WRX. It is now gone and destroyed, so it ain't going back on.

I just am wondering if you need it to pass inspection.

not in our region no, we don't have any sort of inspection here, quite honestly I don't think anyone really knows about these filters, they are pretty well hidden deep inside the air box lid. The charcoal filters are not mandated.

I just gotta say I for one didn't know about the filter. I wish we didn't have inspections it is dumb the way they do them here.

I just gotta say you might as well call me MAGOO because I have changed my air filter at least three times and never noticed this charcoal filter. Also gotta say WTF shouldn't this be changed periodically too? I have never heard or seen mention of changing it.

I just have to say it is very hidden, very hard to miss if you did not know about it. They do say it is part of the emissions system and owners should not remove it, but I don't like the idea of it being stuffed into the intake like that being a restriction. They don't make it to be replaceable as it is held in with plastic rivets, it can't last forever and it must become saturated at some point in the future, but they don't tell you about it. I am not sure what year it was started though.
