Friday the 13th

October 16, 2004 : Started listening to jazz cd (which was recorded on a Friday the 13th by a local artist)
October 22, 2004 : Friend asks, "Are you superstitious?" - I answer 'no'.
... this question seems to echo over the next several days. It was an odd question just sort of thrown into the middle of a normal conversation.
October 27-28, 2004 : Total Lunar Eclipse (Feel strange sense of euphoria.)
October 30, 2004 : Lost in a corn field at the "Mars Mania" corn maze. (Got lost getting to the maze even. The above jazz artist was riding with me. I couldn't remember the exit number. I kept asking. But 10 seconds later I couldn't remember and would ask again.)
October 31, 2004 : Halloween (I have a hard time even telling what time of day it is.)
October 31, 2004 : Daylight Savings Time Change (this throws off my sense of time even more)
November 1, 2004 : Pass-out at my brothers house
November 3, 2005 : I'm gone. No one can find me. Missing persons report filed by brother.
November 4, 2004 : I don't know where I am. Everything is strange. I'm trying to figure out why. "Am I dead?"
November 4, 2004 : Arrested for trespassing.

Mom - every Friday the 13th from spring to fall, Harley riders gather in Port Dover, which is (as you can guess) a town by the water here in Ontario. I think it started out with a bunch of ruffians, but now lots of riders show up there. It's quite the sight apparently, although I haven't been. Dad and the fiancee will head there this Friday.

Friday, November 13, 1987 - a day that will live in infamy
The race season had just come to a close, and a tragic close it was. I was Paul Newman's crew chief, and at the St. Pete SCCA Trans-Am race, his teammate Jim Fitzgerald died in a racing accident (not in the car I designed, but the previous model). The team came home and we were doing the typical clean up and organizing projects for the winter, and the mood was not made better by the hiring of a new team manager who did not mesh well with the crew.
I made plans to fly to Florida for a couple of weeks' vacation, and stopped by the shop (8 am) on my way to the airport. Where the new manager told me a) I was fired, and b) that I could consider my vacation time as my pay bonus Had I known this was impending, I'd have just driven to FL So off I go...
But wait, there's more. I land in Tampa (5 pm), where my best friend picks me up. We headed to my grandparents' (who were in New Zealand at the time) house in Ft. Myers, to spend the night before heading over to Ft. Lauderdale. I hadn't been home since the previous winter, and my Grandad had a new engine in the Ferrari. So about 10 pm, Keith and I decided to take it out on a closed section of the interstate and find out just how strong the new motor was. The rest is well-documented history
and that's why I don't like Friday the 13th

You're supposed to tell Friday the 13th stories. Mom clearly didn't like mine, so go for it!
