I'm pretty sure we've had this before, and it was using an outdated definition last time, and I think it still is. This is SUPER pedantic (my favorite) but in order to be called "American Cheese" it must have at least 51% cheese by weight. 21 CFR part 133 if you want your eyes to bleed. What, you don't have eCFR bookmarked?

That said... Kraft singles are not American Cheese, they are "Kraft American" with a subtext "Pasteurized Process Cheese Product" which is a phrase Kraft made up to get around legal definitions of process cheese in the US. They do not have 51% cheese, and they dominate the market for American style slices, so most likely the calendar still says FACT, but their terminology is still wrong so it's technically CRAP.

/pedantry

Like vmom said, those non-cheese things still make the best grilled cheeses... dammit now I'm hungry.

FACT

A couple of percentages less cheese, and they probably couldn't legally call it cheese. <

In February 2018, a new life-size 350-foot statue of Godzilla based on the 2016 movie stomped its way into Tokyo's Hibiya Godzilla Square, replacing the previous Godzilla statue based on the 1954 film.
