The computer revolution has slaughtered English grammar. It started with email, and the situation has only continued to deteriorate with the proliferation of handheld devices like pagers and web-enabled phones.
Engineers are the worst offenders (my opinion, of course
), and naturally that's part of the problem. This has always bugged me. Engineers from my college didn't even have an English class credit requirement for graduation. Astonishing, isn't it?
On the other hand, I like to cut my chosen field a little slack... If it weren't for a lax approach to grammar, the field would never have been such a melting pot for immigrants. Nor would international cooperation / collaboration be so prevalent. Thus, despite my feelings about the language, I can't be too serious about all this since I think much good has come from it.
I will say that it's so very refreshing (and rare) to read a technical specification by someone with command over the language. I try to be in that camp, but not I'm not always 100% successful!
