This car is bone stock. Absolutely no modifications at all. Everything as it came from Japan with the exception of the covering for the convertible top in the folded down position, the owner's manual and the second remote key fob. Two (2) standard Honda keys as well as one (1) remote key fob. Built 12/2001. First owner purchased 3/2003 in Charlotte, NC. Second owner purchased 2/2007 in NC with 10,500 miles. Third owner purchased 6/2010 in SC with 40, 300 miles. Fourth owner purchased 4/2012 in SC with 52,000 miles. Fifth owner (me) purchased 5/2012 with 53,200 miles. Current mileage: 62,946. Was garaged in metro Charlotte and Charleston until moving to PA with 52,000 miles. Since then it has never been driven during winters and rarely in the rain the rest of the year. More about that later. As you would imagine there is absolutely no rust anywhere. According to Car Fax the car was consistently serviced by Hendricks Honda in both NC and SC. This recent Car Fax is available from me on line along with an AutoCheck Report from 5/2012 and a great number of photos of car. All 10 VIN stickers match. All glass is original Honda. The convertible top is the original with glass rear window. There are no holes, tears or rips and the support straps have been replaced recently. The condition of the top confirms my belief that this car rarely was without a garage. The exterior presents well paint and finish is excellent with no dents or scrapes. The exception is the front bumper cover. It was repainted by a previous owner and has an area of fade under the headlight covers. I have tried to show this in photos but the light needs to be just so for it to show up. What does show are deep scrapes in the lower edge of the front spoiler caused by contact with parking place concrete stops. There is evidence of a dentless repair to the passenger rear quarter panel. Note the small black plastic grommet used to cover the access opening for the repair tools. The interior is exceptionally clean. No scuffs or wear patterns beyond what would be expected in a well maintained car. Leather is in excellent condition. Again, no scuffs or other abuses.
Engine, transmission, differential and suspension operate smoothly with no abnormal sounds or hiccups. You will know immediately that this car was never abused. All accessories, A/C, heater, defroster, dash lights, switches, controls, side view mirrors, electric windows and top retraction motors work perfectly. Original Honda stereo head with CD and all speakers are perfect. PA State inspected thru 11/2021.
Now the heartache alluded to earlier when speaking about driving in the rain. Last summer I drove what was the most perfect car I ever owned on a day when rain was predicted. On a water slicked roundabout I spun on an area that must have had oil on the blacktop. It was the total snap oversteer you read about. After going 180 degrees the driver rear wheel hit a rather tall curbing. The wheel broke, pushed inboard it damaged the brake and left axle assembly. The repair involved replacing a suspension crossmember, stabilizer link, axle assembly, caliper, rear rotors and pads, splash shield, knuckle, hub assembly and control arm. All work was done by a large dealership collision center with an outstanding reputation. Honda parts- $2,655 plus labor, grand total: $4,646. Included in this total are four original Honda 16" wheels. Before the damage it was riding on 17" aftermarket wheels which could not be matched due to being a discontinued model. We elected to return to the correct original wheels. At the same time new General F-205/55 ZR16 G-maxHP and R-225/50- ZR16 G-maxHP were installed. A four wheel alignment was done.
At 73 years of age my wife says it's time for me to put an order in for a self driving car. I hope I never live to see that. In any event, my AP1 has to go. Whomp, whomp....
Email me with any questions. I can provide a large collection of photos. If you have specific concerns, I will be happy to get a photo of the area and address your questions.
