Default IL - 2008 CR (STR AutoX Prepared)

First Name: Greg
Price: $32k
Location: Chicago Suburbs
Contact: PM

I’m looking to take a step back from srsbznz autocrossing, so my (autocross use only car) SCCA STR S2000CR is for sale. This isn’t an OMG the NDs are coming sale, just a life reprioritization. I competed nationally with this car as 174 last year and 193 this year. The car has been a work in progress over the last two years, and has finally started to come together at this year’s Wilmington Tour (3rd place, fastest second day).

My asking price is $32k with all stock parts and the spare parts as noted below. The price represents $23k for the car and ~2/3 the price of all aftermarket parts that can be removed and sold. The parts’ price doesn’t include labor, shipping, tuning (over 16 hours of dyno time), consumables, etc… I think this is a reasonable estimate of the parts’ value if it was parted out. I'd also consider a trade + cash arrangement for a C6Z06.

Car Information:
  • 2008 Honda S2000 CR (Title in hand)
  • Will have ~76,000 miles after Nationals
Recent Maintenance:
  • Honda MTF-2 (season start)
  • Lubrication Engineer’s LE1607 (season start)
  • Mobil 1 0W-40 (twice a season)
  • NGK BKR7EIX-11 (season start)
  • Valve Adjustment (season start)
  • Rear axle cup swap, greased with Redline CV-2
Go:
  • Custom 3.5” OD intake with BPi velocity stack, K&N filter, aluminum filter heat shield, DEI heat reflective tape. This is a few pounds lighter than a K&N intake and makes 3-4 more horsepower. The length was dyno tuned to balance top end and mid-range power. A shorter intake can make another 3-4 whp up top, and a longer intake can shift the torque curve down a few hundred rpm; but both directions hurt average power over typical autocross speeds.
  • Hondata Flashpro, tuned by Mikey aka Profunction aka M Spec Tuning (>16 hours of dyno time)
  • PLM header with DEI titanium wrap.
  • URGE Gernpipe exhaust. This made a little more mid-range than the prior T1R-70EM & Berk 70mm HFC combination. The exhaust is loud, and has measured 97-102 dBa at National events. It comes with two turn downs; a short straight through one and a Dynamax one with a mesh ‘silencing’ cone. The short one has been effective at reducing sound by 3-4 dBa, and costs no power on the dyno.
  • Buddy Club lightweight pulleys; crank, alternator & water pump.
  • Hardrace engine and transmission mounts. These greatly limit transmission movement, easing shifting with cornering loads.
  • Moroso Catch Can.
Turn:
  • Penske 8300’s built/valved by Penske (Reading, PA) spring 2016. The rears were reworked in July with the rally/street upper top bearings. These have banjo swivels at all hose ends which is not common for Penske builds. Dyno data will go with the shocks. The rears clunk, which is the upper spring perches moving upon the shock shaft adapter. These are dimensionally excellent with just about perfect rear droop and bump travel; a weak link for many shocks.
  • Karcepts top hats. Bought as blemished versions as they were out of stock at the time. The laser branding differs front to rear.
  • Hyperco springs; many rates available.
  • Hyperco rear helper springs (6”) and Eibach dividers modified to clear the lower spring perch with the helpers blocked.
  • Koyo Torrington bearings.
  • Karcepts sway bars front and rear; 1.25” OD, 0.25” wall thickness center section.
  • Mugen front compliance bushings.
  • Megan racing front offset ball joints.
Whoa:
  • Ferodo DS2500 pads
  • Goodridge coated, stainless braided brake lines. Fronts are routed behind the shock.
  • Motul RBF600 brake fluid
Other:
  • Battery Tender BTL14A240C LI-ON battery with automotive terminals, ~2.8 lbs.
  • Chase Race Hitch
  • Includes the hard top tonneau cover pieces; new and unused.
Wheels:
  • Kosei K5R wheels, 17x9 + 62, (TireRack listed at) 16.4 lbs, no longer available new. These will have ~40-50 run RE-71Rs after Nationals.
Spares (included):
  • AP2 differential with new Mobil 1 75W-90 fluid, ready to use
  • Axles (both sides)
Optional Parts (extra cost, or interchange; some currently mounted on my other S2000):
  • TSW Interlagos 17x9 +63 wheels, ~18 lbs; 150+ run BFG Rival-S
  • TSW Nurburgring 17x9 +63 wheels, ~19 lbs; ~110 run RE-71R after Nationals
  • Enkei PF-01 17x9 +60 wheels, 17.2 lbs (TireRack list weight); ~94 runs after Nationals
  • T1R-70EM exhaust with 70mm Berk HFC. Quieter than the Gernpipe, but produces more noise inside the cabin while cruising.
  • Koni / TC Kline 8242 shocks with Koni adjustable lower spring perch hardware. The rears were shortened 20mm and all were rebuilt/revalved by Proparts in the fall of 2015.
  • K&N intake with an unused filter and tube.
  • Saikou Michi Catch Can
The Bad:
  • The car was repainted. The CarFax is clean and none of the panels or structure show crash damage. The hood and trunk are replacements, so I’m thinking the car saw hail at some time. The side emblems were installed in the wrong locations so I removed them; new emblems are included.
  • I replaced the rear bumper cover as a previous owner cut the vertical part behind the rear wheel. The original is included.
  • Passenger’s seat lower cushion has a 1” long cut. This was sewn together, and I have to look for it to notice.
  • The steering wheel has some exposed leather from a recent cleaning. It was previously obscured by dirt/oil and didn’t notice the defect.
  • The front wheel well plastics are cracked/broken like every other autocrossed S2000.

So, I got the car cleaned up post Solo Nationals and now have decent non-autocross related pictures. These are with the TSW Nurburgring as I use these to drive the car around; they are the heaviest of my collection.

The TPMS light is on as only the OE wheels have the sensors.

I was asked a litany of questions via PM, so I thought it best to post for everyone.
  • Is the sound system stock? Yes.
  • Does A/C work? Yes.
  • Does heat work? Yes.
  • Does cruise work? Yes.
  • Will the car as stock have the OE CR suspension, intake, and exhaust? Yes.
  • Was there any hail damage to the hard top and fenders since the hood/trunk was replaced? I don't know. I am only speculating about the trunk and hood replacement. I have not seen any other body damage.
  • Are the VIN tags still attached to the front fenders? Yes, the only panels without VIN tags are the trunk, hood and replacement rear bumper cover (original rear bumper cover included).
  • Was the trunk replaced with an OEM CR trunk (they're different then the base models)? It's an OEM CR trunk and hood; I have not found any non-OEM body parts.
  • Since the car was heavily autocrossed, are there any issues with the suspension (sway bars, etc.)? Nope, none of the stock sway bars, springs, shocks were used and the bushings and joints are in good condition.
  • Were there any customized jobs done to the car such as custom brake ducts, or bumper cutouts? Nope, those are track day oriented modifications.
  • Is the clutch still stock? if so, how does it still grab? Is there any clutch buzz? Yes, good and no buzz that I’ve noticed.
  • How is the transmission (any pop outs or grinds)? Nope, it’s in good working order with MTF-2 fluid changes each season.
  • What brake pads and rotors are included as stock? Honda Rotors w/Honda front pads and Autozone rear pads.
  • Is there any rust on the car? There is only some light/normal surface corrosion on unprotected underbody surfaces. I’ll get pictures in a few days.
  • Are there any issues with the axles (torn, noises, etc)? Nope.
  • Are there any noise coming from the diff? Nope.
  • How many key(s) and remote(s) are included? 2 keys & 1 remote.
  • Is there any overspray on the hood/trunk/rear bumper? Are the parts all OEM? There is no overspray anywhere, the parts are all OEM and the paintwork looks high quality.
  • How are the headlights? Any small internal crack lines due to hazing? No cracks and no obvious hazing (I have a hard time seeing very light hazing).
  • What's the current alignment set at for both fronts/rear? For sold as stock this isn’t relevant as the camber & caster is not achievable at OE ride heights and without front camber adders.
  • Do you still have the 2 covers that goes over the panels by the tonneau cover when the hardtop is off? Those covers are included.
  • Any major dents/dings/scrapes similar to the things that came up in that CA thread that needs to be pointed out? Nothing major, just a few small scratches and dents here and there; there are two small dents one the passenger’s side of the hardtop presumably from someone’s hand. I cannot get any scratches to show in pictures.
  • Pictures of the CR rims? I’ll post some in the next few days.
  • Close up picture of the rip on the passenger seat? I’ll post them in the next few days.
  • Have the rear quarter/front fenders been rolled? Yes.
  • How bad are the fender liners? They are cracked and have some holes worn through (which is normal for lowered vehicles).
