Can a car like this pass the visual part of the smog test even if it is able to pass emissions?

 

I'm not sure if cars that have an AEM stand alone computer can pass smog in the first place, but I am not sure.

It would be a pain in the ass each year if it can't pass a smog check.

 

Does your S2000 have catalytic convertors?

The passing of a smog check is an important issue to me for obvious reasons.

If a car fails visual but passes the emissions part of the test, does this technically mean it passes overall? Or does it have to pass all parts of the test in order to be deemed smog-legal?

 

I believe it fails the visual test, it fails the entire smog test. If it does not have cats for example, you cannot pass and receive a smog certificate no matter how clean it runs.

Of course it depends on the state, but I would think this is true in all the states. In California you definitely will fail. I don't think any turbo kit passes CARB.

Also, if you are running an outboard computer, the smog station cannot plug into your OBD2 port and get a reading, which will fail you as well I believe.

What state are you in? As I said, in California it is very tough.

 

Southern California.

This state is the worst for everything. Real estate is the most expensive here, gas is expensive here as well not to mention we only get 91 octane, traffic is ridiculous everywhere you go, and even if you do travel at 2 or 3 in the morning most of the roads are closed due to construction, the level of smog in LA is so drastic smoking a cigarette would be healthier for you, etc. etc.

The one good thing about CA is the sunny weather. That's it.
