Remove the resonator from the stock exhaust. I am sure there is a thread somewhere on how to do it - it's a small box that hangs off to the side of the exhaust. Apparently supposed to be a tuned port to deaden sound.

I read mixed reviews about removing the resonator. I do want a better sound from my stock exhaust. Would do test pipe if not for the smell. I don't want an aftermarket exhaust again either. i searched, but couldn't find a how to on removing the resonator.
I am getting an FIPK intake. It is 215, but worth it to me. sounds great!

Hi Rich,
My '02 came with the resonator in a box - already removed. Car had the K&N mod as above. I though it sounded GREAT and I never had an issue. Obviously, different folks have different experiences and expectations, and likes as to what the car should sound like.
From my experience, these two mods do indeed give a nice improvement in sound quality from a stock exhaust. That's my only point. Couple of relatively cheap mods made a nice improvement, for me.
