Default Woe is Me

Hey guys,

So I parked my car at work today and noticed walking past it that I had a new hole in my front bumper It would appear that with all the work trucks that are around my office (parallel parking in downtown Fayetteville), I was the victim of a "crunch-and-run" or "crunch and unaware" at some point yesterday. It appears that a vehicle with one of those square-tube hitch mounts backed up far enough to punch the mount through my bumper just south of the driver-side headlight. Infuriating, to say the least... I have no suspects, not that I could do anything about it if I did, and with this being relatively minor in the scheme of things, I will be paying for it out of pocket instead of claiming it on insurance.

So anyway, if anybody has or knows of a Silverstone front bumper for sale, I am in the market.

That sucks!

No other place to park, even if it is a little bit of a walk?

Nope, not without paying a hefty monthly fee for parking in a deck or city lot, and then it's a further walk to our office than the street parking, which is free. The spots are big and I've never had a problem before now, but I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later with all the big trucks around. The frustrating fact is that the big trucks which have been stealing our parking for the past year are all related to the parking deck which is being constructed LITERALLY across the street from our building. They have parking that is paid for by the city two blocks away, yet they take the businesses' parking because it is that little bit closer.

The hole is at the "angle" where the slope from the hood meets the vertical portion of the bumper, so it is low for a hitch. I have a hunch that it was a van or a truck with a "hidden hitch" type thing installed where it is under the bumper. I have measured the hole's height from the ground and have considered taking measurements on the hitches of trucks that park in the area, but even if I found a "glass slipper fit" I don't think I would be able to do anything about it other than point fingers. Very frustrating, especially since I went through a similar but much worse incident a couple of years ago in a hit-and-run while stopped at a red light by a probable drunk driver when I had my Mini. Caused nearly $11k in damage, spun us across 2 lanes, jumped a curb, crossed the sidewalk and stopped in the yard of a bank. Never found that guy either. This is nowhere near as bad, but it's still very frustrating, and brings back the anger I had towards the guy that hit me and drove off before.

Thoms, itmight be possible to repar it if the material is still there and not torn away. Check a local body shop.

Thanks Lee... The material is still there; it's actually an "L" punched into the bumper since it was at an angle. Never heard of someone doing bodywork on a bumper before, is this common, and any idea if it will truly "disappear" if it is fixed? Anybody have any remote ballpark idea of cost?

I've seen it done, but it's not common. New bumper is easier : /

Maybe time for an AP2 upgrade? Or perhaps an asm or spoon? Best time for an upgrade is when something gets damaged.

I'm not trying to file it on insurance unless it's above $800. And it's all stock for me... No AP2 or aftermarket bumpers.
