Default Where to live in Charlotte for 4 weeks?

Company is putting me in Charlotte on assignment for 4 weeks in a corporate apartment.

Wondering if anyone has thoughts on where a good place to live temporarily would be? It would just be me, no family or kids. Looking for some place where there's restaurants and shopping within walking distance or easy access from public transportation.

Some folks have suggested just living in downtown. Corporate apartment folks (Oakwood) suggested a few properties:

309 East Morehead Street
520 West 5th Street
1205 S Tryon Street

Are those nice areas in downtown? Thoughts? Anything to watch out for?

The E Morehead and S Tryon locations would put you closer to retail and restaurants than the W 5th location. They are all safe neighborhoods.

If your office is in the "Uptown" area, there should be a grocer somewhere in that area if you are without transportation.

Charlotte is not the easiest city to get around in if you do not have a car. You would be mostly confined to the uptown area.

Its a great city, I hope you enjoy!

I'd look around the Southpark area... plenty of shopping and restaurants, plus its a pretty central location you can walk around to get to a lot of stuff. Ask the property folks what they have in Southpark.

Huskergirl is a GEM when it comes to advice for Charlotte. Plus my2ks2k and Saki GT are great too.

I've only been in Charlotte since February and can tell you there are some hit 'n miss places. But I agree...those areas all sound safe. And if you are in South Park, hit me up...we can do lunch or something...my office is at Carnegie.

Thanks everyone!

My office is off of the Arrowood Rd from the 77, near the 485, so I don't really need to be in downtown/uptown, especially if there's not that much going on there. Plus, I'll have a car (although it won't be my s)

I'll ask them about South Park. Is that basically the area around South Park Mall?

Yes, its probably the best location imho, as you have the main mall for the city, at least three major shopping areas around the mall, and good restaurants and caf

My first 2 months of Charlotte living was right on Woodlawn...about 2 miles from Carnegie/South Park...lots and LOTS of places to shop, eat and hang out.

So I looked for something closer to South Park, there's a location at 3300 Eastover Ridge Drive, which appears to be north of South Park - decent area?
