I have had one under mine, and I have found out it is damaged. The original owner had Lojack on the car, so I never really knew if it was factory or not. Mine has a bunch of stuff on the chip bent like the resistors and diodes and what not.

I found out b/c the alarm would go off when putting it into reverse. So I call Paul, the kid who I was trying to sell the car to, to see if he messed with anything. He said he was removing my axialflow short shifter b/c he sold it (thanks!) and when he put the console back he crushed the chip. HELLO why would you leave a chip crushed? so there's a red light and a green light and sometimes they light up and sometimes not. So sometimes my alarm goes off when trying to drive and sometimes it doesn't.

Just wondering if this is a factory part, and if so, can I buy another "chip" or do I have to buy the whole security system?

I've never seen any kind of electronics under the console, in anyone's S...so I seriously doubt that it's a factory part.

That is a common place to install a proximity sensor for an aftermarket alarm. Just unplug it and see if the system works normally.
