The t-chain tensioner is ~$125 and takes 10 minutes to replace. I'd do that first and see if your noise goes away. What you describe sounds exactly like what my tensioner sounded like before I replaced it.

If you have a CAI, it's a 10 minute job. If you havet to deal with the stock airbox to get to the front of the motor, it's a 20 minute job. 2 bolts hold the tenisioner to the block. You unbolt them, pull the old one out, and throw it in the trash. Then you put the new one on and replace the bolts. You remove a hex-head access cover from the front of the motor, reach in with a pair of pliers and pull the locking pin out of the new tensioner. It almost took me longer to type it than it takes to do the repair. 6.1 hours? Move the decimal to the left one spot.

Well, the service manager said they were going to get paid for 6.1 hours when I told him I'd do it myself, so I figure if they're going to get reimbursed regardless I'll let them do it.

Just an update. Everhart Honda in Statesville replaced my tensioner today, free of charge, under the CPO warranty. So if yours is a CPO car and your local friendly dealer won't do it, call Reno or Toby at Everhart and have them order the part and schedule you an appointment. I dropped my car off at 8:30 this morning and they had it ready at 1:00.

How did you get them to look at it without paying money up front? Hendrick wants to charge me for a diagnostic. If they find something under warranty, I don't have to pay a dime. If they don't, or they claim the tensioner is not warrantied, then I'm screwed b/c I'm broke.

You will hear a ticking noise. I just called them up and told them, hey I think my cam chain tensioner needs to be replaced. They said bring it over. Called me back later that day said yes, we need to order it, the part should be here next Wednesday unless you want to pay for overnight. We suggest not driving it as it seems to be real loose. I said ok, brought my car in they fixed it, called me, handed me the keys and I was motoring down the freeway with the top down.
