Default Test Drive

Actually saw the car advertised in one of those local 'car trader' mags this morning while I was eating breakfast, so I figured what the heck...
Specs:
2000 Integra Type R, Flamenco(sp?) Black Pearl, 25,xxx miles, All Stock
Pristine condition inside and out when I arrived and saw it
Bad news... Salvaged title car from MD... According to the guy some states will salvage anything once it's in ANY kind of wreck... Maryland is one of those states so he says

Slight, slight front end body damage, no frame damage... replace front bumper and hood, respray and blend everything back in... I believe that part, the thing was amazing in person... Interior was flawless and OEM... not even a wear mark on the drivers seat... No curb rash on any of the wheels and excellent tread on all 4 matching tires... Looked pretty close to showroom condition... This does not appear to be like most ITR's these days... Looks well kept and from the looks of it, everything the dealer is telling me seems true...

Drove it around town for a good 30 mins or so and got everything warmed up real good to really test drive it... I don't know what it was about the experience, but I was left feeling disappointed... Long story short, the B-series motors and the F-series motors are two TOTALLY different animals... The car felt flat and the VTEC crossover was less than inspiring to me personally... Not the surge I was expecting or used to... In it's own right the car is great and an engineering marvel, but it just does not compare at all to our beloved S2K... Guess I'm spoiled...

I haven't Carfaxed the VIN or anything and in NO way was I thinking of trading the S for it, but I was curious to how it performed since I've never driven one before... Buuuut it would be real nice to have just for its rarity and exclusiveness of the car...

^ great cars and pretty rare... B series motors dont really compare to our F's. I had a civic with a B16a2(2000 Si motor) with quite a bit of work done to it but was not touched internally and it was quite a screamer in VTEC but still did not have the "punch" that our S2K's have.

Would be a fun car to have just to have though

"Uneducated" being the operative word there. Sorry, but that was a really stupid comment you made.

The ITR, properly driven, is pretty much as fast as the S2000 on a lot of road courses. It's lighter, responds well to modifications, and so it can easily put out the same power (and thus have a better power to weight ratio) as an S2000. It's a well recognized (albeit rare, in the USA) racing platform for enthusiasts. It is still arguably the best-handling FWD production vehicle ever sold in the USA.

Chances are that the OP is used to RWD handling so he couldn't/didn't adjust his driving style to the FWD nature of the ITR. It actually handles close to RWD at the limit when set up properly.

If I had to have a FWD (who knows why) the ITR would be on a very short list of cars I'd consider.

Great cars now. Amazing cars back in 96-97 when they first came to the US.
