Well isn't that very sneaky! From the article (which I didn't read all the way through) they are goign to be using these big rigs to gather data on how cars affect craches that involve big rigs.

So, uh, these three rigs have to get into accidents with cars?

Article more or less says data has been collected that a lot of wrecks involving big rigs are more likely to have been the fault of a car that was following too close or cut the truck off. Now the cops, in umarked vehicles, can see how wonderful drivers are when they don't know a cop is looking at them.

Next up, cops should ride with regular cars to see how annoying trucks are by blocking passing lanes, driving over the speed limit (cars can stop from 80mph a lot faster than a truck can. . .) or tailgating people.

I think alot of the 18wheelers crashes have more to do with the Drivers of the 18 wheelers....

falling asleep, misattention. etc. etc.

But yeah i am sure they'd catch lots of people doing stupid shit in cars being up that high. Hopefully they'll see other truckers doing stupid shit too.

It's a mix... many semi drivers are really good... with my daily driving adventures on the highways... I encounter some courteous folks and then some real ASS-hats!

Good link!
