On my '00 S2000, I (accidentally) was shipped the OEM Porsche S-02 and not the Honda S-02. I just left them on anyhow and they were on the rear for 18K miles and still had 30-40% tread life when I traded in the car. These made the rear end far less planted for the first 1K or 2K miles but then settled in but I could tell there was less grip. However, from my limited wet weather driving, they were vastly superior (wider grooves).

Another for the Meguiar's Endurance gel - it rocks!!

I have RE730s on my rear and S02s on the front.. they are ok for the money, but 5k rpm drops spin them, and I HAVE lost my back end doing turns that I REALLY didn't think I would loose it... In the rain they were not as impressive as I thought... back end skipped around a lot doing like 45 on highway 70 in Goldsboro.

airgate
It has been a week; we want a performance update.
Do you still like them?
How many miles have you put on them?
Has it been hot, cold, rainy?
Is the steering response as sharp as it was with the S-02s?

Sure. . .here's some info thus far. They really are great and I'm still smiling!

Do you still like them?

Absolutely!

How many miles have you put on them?

About 1,500. . .

Has it been hot, cold, rainy?

I wish it was cold. . . Very, very hot and no rain. . .until today and they held up very, very well! Very sweet in the wet!

Is the steering response as sharp as it was with the S-02s?

Yes, I believe so. . .I don't drive the S2000 any differently now then when I had my S-02's!

I am shocked that so many like the Ecsta's which have been rated as a mediocre performance tire. I don't have them but have driven two cars with them and thought they were mostly good at making noise. I have nothing against Kumho and swear by the Victoracer's at the track but IMO the 312's are not in the same class as the S02's when it comes to driving them hard. I don't drive the miles to need high wear so maybe my judgement is much further biased toward max performance.
