Hope folks will note too, cuz I'd hate for Raul's thread/post to start a console-war debate...that I don't hate the Xbox...rather, I just "very much like" the PS2. BTW, I'm not in a position at work to dig into it, but it is my understanding from E3 that there is development on the PS2 for a Halo-killer-app (I believe from Criterion, perhaps?).
Anyway, I give props to the Xbox and some of its games (like Halo) no doubt. Just wanted to be clear on that -- as a gamer, I like games (regardless of the platform). But like what I believe to be a lesson to be learned from Sega's Dreamcast and other good consoles...if the developers are unsure of the life-expectancy of a thing...they'll help kill it by not developing for it. That is my only true concern for Xbox at this time.

What The F.... why wait for their Modem! I have played both console and have to say that MS will nickel and dime you for each add-on component (ie. No DVD playback out-of-the-box, You have to buy the module) At least with the PS2, you can use the games controller. Also, the PS2 support digital optical output for 5.1.
Use a USB adapter for the PS2. I have a Belkin 10/100 and have been playing THPS3 on line for a month now. Screw the modem. Use high speed access. DHCP and Static Support! (Both Client and Server side apps are built into the games).
Worked with my LPR, Linksys, Netgear, and Cisco Router.
[Known *WORKING* USB Ethernet Adapters for PS2]@$50 each
3Com USB Network Ethernet Adapter 3C460B
BAFO USB To Ethernet Adapter BF-310
Belkin USB 10/100 Ethernet Adapter F5D5050
Belkin USB 10/100 Ethernet Adapter F5U122-PC
EdiMax USB Father Ethernet Adapter 10/100 EU-4201
Hawking USB 10/100 Fast Ethernet Adapter (UF100) USB 10/100M
Jinco USB Ethernet Adapter 10/100 Base-T UE-110
Kouwell USB to Ethernet 588A
NetLINE 10/100 USB Adapter PN796
USB to Fast Ethernet Converter SOHO-USBNET/100
And if you are Linux nut, then can get the Linux game developers module for $199
PS Linux Site
The Linux kit contains:
Linux (for PlayStation 2) version 1.0 software
Monitor cable adaptor to connect your PS2 to a computer monitor
40 gigabyte internal hard disc drive
10/100 Ethernet adaptor
USB keyboard and mouse
Overall, at $199 each I would buy both systems. However, I chose the PS2. Don't buy into the Power Hype as the XBox is a 733 Celeron and move 64-bit buckets, while the PS is 300MHz moving 128-bit buckets. (So, its more like a 600 vs a 733).
The PS2 is going to be around for a long time. As for graphics, they are going to be about the same. The limiting factor here is not the consoles. It is your TV!
