w......t......f.......! I just got back from the dealership and they said it was going to cost 1400 bucks to fix including labor and they said something wrong with my timing chain. I'm confused as hell because they haven't even looked at it and I just decided to get it towed to hartsville for a pretty decent mechanic to look at it. He's a lot better and I trust him more than I do the dealer (In All Fairness). This guy in hville has a dyno and etc. so I'm sure he'll do it right. He Fixed both my parents cars before within hours. I still doubt it has something to do with the chain. I just want to fix it, but if not i think it's safe to drive for tomorrow as long as I don't drive the shit out of it =( Hopefully the guy will fix it though =D PRAY FOR TEH S!

Is this in relation to the possible overrev?

If it is, and IIRC, you mentioned that there was a ticking noise coming from the engine bay that you didn't remember from before the incident.

The chain tensioner has been an issue for some cars. It does tend to make noise when it's not working properly. I don't know a lot about it myself, but there are several threads about it in UTH.

If I understand correctly about how the tensioner fails, a potential overrev should not have caused the tensioner to fail.

But, IIRC, you said that you weren't sure exactly how fast you were going when you misshifted. Based on estimates, it didn't sound like a significant overrev. It could just your perception that this sound started when you misshifted and it is in fact the chain tensioner.

Either way... If you do believe you misshifted, I would still have somebody pull the valve cover and inspect the retainers. The problem with an overrev on this car (especially AP1s) is that the retainers can crack and show absolutely no symptoms until one finally fails completely, dropping the valve and causing a LOT of damage. You don't want that. I would suggest NOT driving the car until the retainers have been inspected by a competent mechanic. Not a very time consuming job if there is nothing wrong. Much more time consuming if they need to be replaced.

If it's the timing chain tension that's making noise, I may be way off, but I think $1400 is way too high.

Anyway, if I'm confusing you with another story, well, that was a lot of typing.

I hope that helps.

I've replaced my TCT(timing chain tensioner) b4... An over-rev should not have an effect on the TCT by itself...

And yes $1400 for changing just that is absolutely absurd...
