Default Looking for info on Charlotte

Okay, my wife and I just got back from Charlotte. We are thinking about buying a house either in Highland Creek or The Villages of Leacroft, north Charlotte area. Anyone know anything about the area. Pros/cons type thing? We will be moving up in a couple months, moving into the house, then looking for jobs.

Who here is in the Charlotte area and is the S2K community very active?

Thanks,
Dave

I have acquaintances in both neighborhoods who like it there. The biggest complaint is the traffic which is horrible, however, the widening of 77 has helped. Highland Creek has tapped out as for price, so don't expect a large appreciation.

The CLT community is great and we all go to a lot of events/meets/social gathering etc.

What fields do you and your wife work in?

Thanks, I'm in accounting/finance and my wife is an office manager for Make a Wish, but will probably be looking for work as an executive assistant.

Traffic didn't seem too bad in the area we were looking at, but I don't think we saw any traffic as bad as what we are use to here in Florida.

Have you looked in South Charlotte. Growing like mad down here and just as nice. Home prices are a little more, but they seem to be appreciating faster than the north. Just a suggestion.

Nope, don't have kids and don't want kids :knockonwood: We drive 21 miles each way to work right now, takes about 45-55 minutes. I drove the commute to Charlotte on Tuesday at 7:40 am and it was a breeze compared to how our commute is in Tampa, and those extra lanes on 85 aren't even open yet.

We looked in the south part last fall. It was nice, but we love the hills and trees in the north areas we looked at this past weekend.

Do they have hills and a lot of trees in the south part? We didn't look very hard and may have missed some nice communities. But, we have to have the hills, trees, and walking trails. Pools are a nice extra too, and I'd like to take up golfing.

Well, golfing is everywhere, but South seems to be where the upper end of the Country Club types are. We live just over the border in Union County (I mean across the street is the Meck county line, and the taxes are amazing (half of what they are in Meck), as well as the schools (I have one, had the same idea as you but somebody didn't agree with me). There are not so many hills, but I don't remember alot of them up in the North either, so I think it looks the same. Lots of walking and amenities down here, but its all up to your tastes. If your interested in talking about it, let me know and I can talk to you on the phone about the areas down here you might want to look at.

Huntersville is where its at! Outside of the Charlotte city limits with no chance of being annexed and enjoying a much lower tax rate.

Rapid appreciation too.

Yeah...but the commute from Huntersville to Charlotte is one of the worst in the city; traffic-wise. Plan on an hour each way in rush hour.
