I have a 1/2" torque wrench. You don't need a 3/4

We broke our 1/2 torque wrench doing the axle nuts on Eric's car...be careful. I'd rather suggest using a 1/2" breaker bar and cheater pipe. You can measure the angle of turn to get the torque right.

You used it to try and loosen the nuts, correct? Not really what a torque wrench is designed to do, an impact wrench is a better option to get them off. I am pretty sure the 1/2" with a cheater pipe would work fine to get them tight.

I dont think most people have a compressor big enough for that thing...but this would be a nice addition to the tool chest

Yeah, I just used a 3/4" breaker bar and my jack handle as an extension to break them loose, then tightened them according to that walkthrough. I borrowed both the breaker bar and socket from a friend's dad who has a hot rod shop. Torque wrench should be necessary.

I own a 3/4" impact and torque wrench. I HIGHLY suggest not guessing on the wheel nut as the TSB torque is right at yield for the axle and can start to stretch it. Even with a big 3/4 torque wrench you have to put some ass behind it.

As far as the impact, I only have a 20gal tank which means my gun can run for about five seconds. It doesn't matter though. It will take a fully staked nut off in less than three taps. It doesn't even notice it.

If you pull the hub out and it's badly scored I would replace it when you have time. The last time I did my right I had to replace it because it ate a new bearing after 20k miles. I'll be in Raleigh after lunch shopping if you want to meet somewhere for the wrench.

If you want to own the tools, harbor freight has a decent 3/4 TR and socket set. Shouldn't be more than $125.

A half inch impact will just waste energy. I own both electric aand pneumatic. You need a 3/4. Harbor freight has them cheap and they do well for a hobbyist.
