Now, for my rant... Is it just me, or did everyone love Tommy Bowden when he came to Clemson, hated him when he lost a couple games (including Wake Forest last week) and suddenly, y'all have a good game, and what do we hear in the background after the win? "Tommy! Tommy! Tommy!"... I mean, give me a break. That's the definition of fair-weather... is it not?
PS - I'm all for the Steve Spurrier rumors. I never really liked him, but I kinda miss him at the same time... He'd be the perfect coach for any team's rival!

That was a helluva game! We had some decent tickets on the lower deck too. I'm soo glad I didn't scalp those tickets!
As far as Tommy, I think it's a bit more involved than just losing one game, now everyone hates you... He really had a slump there for the last two/three seasons. We've been decent, but decent doesn't cut it for a major university. Finally beating FSU, after a rough, rough season showed us that he might pull through. And once we take care of USC in a few weeks I think he'll have at least another year to coach with us. I like Tommy and I really hope they give him the support he needs.

No, no... I'm not trying to talk bad about Tommy! (though I do think he dresses like a bum some times...)
I'm trashing the Clemson fans. Do you think USC fans can't relate to Tiger fans? We've had at least as big of a slump as y'all have. Let's face it, the biggest thing that matters in this state is who wins in 2 weeks. Since Lou has been here, we've only beat y'all once. Even with that in mind, we've yet to mention anything about firing Lou Holtz. We still believe in him and we're willing to give him a little time to develop the program... Clemson doesn't agree with this philosophy, or at least not with Tommy Bowden. He has a couple dud years and he's gone... until one day, Fl. St. plays bad, Clemson plays amazingly well, and one miraculous victory makes Clemson fans believers again. And I heard it with my own two ears "Tommy, Tommy, Tommy..." What happens IF they lose to Duke this weekend? What happens when the thunder clouds hang over Death Valley again? Will we hear how awful Tommy is again? Will he get fired? I bet we won't hear "Tommy, Tommy, Tommy..."
Sorry, as a guy who goes to every home game and at least half of USC's away games every year, I feel like I'm qualified to point a finger at a bunch of fair weather fans... We may lose to Clemson, but I promise my flag will still be flying on my car all weekend. The only time I've seen Clemson flags all year are on Fridays and days after a win...
:EndRant:
PS - I won't be seeing y'all in Florence this Saturday as I'll be at our football game!!!

As a lifelong Clemson fan I can understand what your saying about the fairweather fans, but I've supported Tommy this whole season. At the first sign that people were saying fire him it upset me. Clemson has been in a tradition lately of 4 or 5 years and your out. They barely let the coaches coach guys that they actually recruited. I for one hope Tommy stays, even if we lose the next two, but I have a feeling the bigwigs in IPTAY wouldn't allow that. As for my flags, they fly all year, win or lose!

Hey, tigerfan...have you come out of your touchdown induced state of euphoria yet?
Any other Gamecock fans out there simply thrilled McGee extended Lou's contract until '08?
Met and talked with Tommy Bowden's brother, Terry, a few weeks ago--before the Bowden Bowl. To say he's not fond of Clemson is an understatement--although it seems mostly directed at the athletic dept and the alumni (the ones with the purse stings, not fans in general). I was a bit surprised he was so vocal about it. Interesting to hear him talk about college football, though...

Needless to say I was quite happy with Saturdays game, but I know people can get real touchy at the subject of such a game so I just decided I would steer clear on this one. So where did you meet Terry at? Did you get the impression that his thoughts were just his or also shared by his brother as well? I may be wrong but I'm expecting to hear soon that Tommy will be staying with us for at least one more year.

Josh--
Met him at a drop-in for one of our clients here in Greenville. He really didn't say anything about how Tommy felt and I certainly didn't ask. I got the impression he felt that they were going to run Tommy off--which I think would be a shame. He seems like a class act, but I really don't know. He did talk a little about his experience at Auburn--that he wouldn't do what the alumni wanted. He made a definite correlation between the big money boosters at Auburn and those at Clemson. (disclaimer--I'm not trying to take a swipe at Clemson, just passing on what he said!) The overall impression I got was that he really doesn't like what goes on in big time college football and the roles the boosters and the school administrations play in it. Absolutely no kind words for Sherrill and Danny Ford. I agree--college football has turned into nothing more that the minors for the NFL. Most of those kids aren't there for academic reasons--they're really not student athletes. They're there to prep for the pros. Drop the pretense of the student athlete thing and call it for what it is.
Yeah--people do get touchy. I don't--it's all in good fun. It was so bad that in the end we were pulling for Clemson to run the score up just to spite Lou, whom I detest. Earlier in the week he popped off and said that our players were taking the rivalry and game too seriously. Ugh.
