There is a Vortech on EBAY right now as we speak and the title sounds almost the same.

Its also a florida number and he is asking for people to call him and he will sell it to them pre auction etc for a negotiated price...


Might be the same scammer...?

 

do this. take his old number and misdial the last number. when someone picks up, ask for "bob" and when they tell you its the wrong number - just politely ask if its a verizon number? maybe they'll say yes, maybe they'll say no. then try to get the carrier since phone companies buy numbers in huge blocks. it might take pestering a few people with that info, each phone carrier is required to take a drivers license for each phone number. you'll be able to track his real name and addie. i would guess if hes a smart scammer, hed get a skype number or something. but, lets hope hes an idiot, is doing this over a cell, and likes going to jail

 

Well i actually know who his carrier is. Its comcast internet phone service and I dont think i can trace that unless anyone of you guys has some suggestions for me.

Anything at all would be greatly appreciated.

Do internet phones still have an IP address that you could track down to a specific location (i.e. address that service is provided to). I dont know much about computers or internet technology.
Just a word of advice for the future though (as sucky and pessimistic as it sounds) trust noone...people will screw you faster than you think, even "friends".

IP phones have an IP that can be assigned or is issued (like DHCP) through another device (router, switch etc). The device that issues the IP/phone number combo ties it to the IP phones MAC address. The internet phone company should be able to tell you exactly where the phone call is coming from since they most likely manage the device at the crooks POP (point of presence). Now whether or not they tell any info on the user thats another problem.
