Default How much do I clean it up for sale...

Ok, I'm toying with the idea of selling my S2000....how much do I repair stuff that's faded over the years? Would someone value having stuff fixed or better to let them fix it so they know the exact condition? I don't want to hide anything but when I sell my other cars I always "spiff it up".

-Tires (definitely old)
-Some carpet has mouse urine (minor, but I'm tempted to swap it out)
-Old clear bra on front bumper
-Some dents (I suspect these are no big deal)

Stuff like that....thoughts?

(Note this isn't a "for sale", when I do that I'll put it over in the proper section etc....)

Yeah, that was my initial thought too...but I can't find anything and it's driving fine. I may have lucked out.

If you want someone to buy it you need to spruce it up. The better it looks the better your chances to sell it. I'm sure someone would buy it regardless but the best looking cars go first. You didn't ask an ugly girl to the prom did you?

Well, I'm older and wiser since prom....if that answers your question.

But fair point...in my mind I want to sell to a great owner who would appreciate knowing all the history of the car. But then there is part of me that says "drive it over to carmax".

I'm thinking that I might leave the tire decision for the next owner and then get everything else cleaned up without major work.

List the work that you do and everything is disclosed.

I would work to get rid of the mouse urine smell and clean the carpets. The other stuff is not worth it imo.

Personally I would rather pick the tires to go on the car and deal with removing the clear bra myself. I’m not going to pay that much more for a car with new tires versus the same car with old tires.

What's the cliche about first impressions again? Urine smell has gotta go. This smell tells every potential buyer, heck anyone who walks by the car, you don't care about this car at all which you apparently don't since you've been living with it. All your maintenance is suspect. Pay to have this fixed.

Much of the rest depends on the car's condition and targeted sales audience. Turn-key one-owner classic car for mature buyer? Tuner car for the kid who wants to slam it and fit a fart cannon exhaust? Too many factors and too little information.

I'm usually the insane person who documents everything and I'd think my listing on Facebook for my car is over 800 words because I just do it all.

I think tires if they are over 5 years old, just get some cheap tires to get the next owner by. Don't want to have some Maypops on the car let alone dry rotted no-grips.
The Mouse urine I believe could be addressed with a carpet extractor which if you have a shop vac there's attachments for or if you have pets, it's good to have!

Easily worth doing those, but the dents depends on how much a PDR guy in your area may charge. I know a guy who does $80 an hour and he's QUICK and efficient rather than $10-15 each.
