European Delivery?

European Delivery?
Since we lost the Lexus the first of the year we are looking at a new car in the next few months, particularly the Volvo XC or Mercedes ML350. I've been looking into their European Delivery option- picking up the car at the Euro factory, tool around Europe for awhile and bring it home. So far it looks like you basically get a free airplane ticket for paying MSRP. The nice option is they take care of all permits, country road use tax, insurance and few other options. The downside is it may take awhile to get home.
I've been planning a Norway, Sweden, Finland, Eastern Europe trip anyway, and this would be a nice way to travel around.
I was wondering if anyone has done this, know someone who has, or any general thoughts on it?

well.. i use to work for mercedes benz... I think that its a great idea getting that trip to europe. However.. you also mention that there will be a time lag due to modification to the car to fit america's standard. the plus side, is that you could get certain colors that the US may not be able to get unless they go to europe. actually, quite a few people buy cars directly from there.. i guess... for the experience.. ?

Actually the time lag is just putting the vehicle on the boat, and getting over here. However, I assumed the vehicle is spec'd to US but its a good question to ask. I'm sure it is, though.

Kallan, I was looking at a Volvo to replace my Civic Si for the long commute I have from New Bern to Goldsboro. The European delivery option is awesome. I would love the tour and enjoy driving my NEW car in Europe. They have multiple points within Europe, so it's not *only* Sweden.
Anna and I were thinking of picking the Volvo up in Rome and taking a tour of Rome and Italy...in our new Volvo. I don't know how it all works, but I read their book and looked it over on the website.
As for the Volvo...I'm still undecided. I'm between it and an Audi A4. Moreso for their luxury offerings, fuel economy and warranties.
The XC for you...fits. You are no Benz-snot.

Kallan,
If you want to know more...call my friend Rick Borner. He sold Volvos for years and has *extensive* knowledge and experience with European Deliveries.
Rick can be reached at 252-638-3025
Let him know Raul sent you...
Is it the XC 70 or the XC 90???
Kallan's future ride...not to mention...Bettis' future ride.

Are you working in Goldsboro now? If so, you have quite a ride everyday.
Yeah...it's a hellaofa drive, but it's temporary.

Kallen, How have you been, it has been a while! Before I met Cecelia long before. I did it with a 911. I drove around Europe and then had it shipped back. If my memory does not fail me you need to put certain amount of miles on it so you don't get hit with specific import taxes, and you must make sure that it has all the US safty and emmissions requirements. From the time I dropped it off to the time I recieved the car back in the states was something like 6 weeks and then I had to pick it up at the point of destination. Hope this helps.
