That sucks. I do believe the F22C retainers and valves fit the F20C, and I hope you are able to get her rebuilot and back on the road soon.

This last Dragon meet, Billman250 put on an excellent show about the difference between the F20C and F22C retainers. Quite interesting how Honda fixed the problem. Of course that doesn't help you atm....

Good luck with the rebuild! i just checked EBay, and a used F20C goes for 3-4K. Ouch!

yeah dropping the redline to 8k helps save some stress on the retainers.

There are a couple of used motors in the FS section of the board for less than $3k. Having been down the rebuild road before, I'd rather drop in a known-good junkyard motor. Send a PM to davgoat and see if he has any motors. I got my F22 from him last fall.

They also significantly reinforced the retainers. Not sure, but I think F22C retainers can be retrofitted to an F20C.

My understanding is that F22 retainers are a common, and recommended, upgrade when rebuilding an F20.

What is it that makes these engines so difficult to rebuild, anyway? I'm no engine internals expert, but I hear a lot about how difficult they are to rebuild properly. Anyone know?
