Default Computer Game Help! SC3K and Monitor Settings! Arrggghhh!

I am soooo upset at myself. I have had SimCity3000 installed for quite awhile and it's one of my games I love to play to relax. Build a city, then destroy it. Kidding.

At any rate, for no freakin' reason, I decide to alter the settings. Nice job Raul! Well, I set the monitor preferences to a larger number (thinking that this would give me some ultra-cool view of the cities). Wrong! Instead, my computer shut down and now the game loads normally (I can hear it in the background) but I get a BLACK screen with a floating box that reads "Out of Sync." And I have to power off my computer manually to clear it.

Arrrggghhh. I already un-installed the software (losing all my prized-cities, I think) and re-installed it. Still nothing, it does the same. I thought re-installing it would set it to default. What do I do now?

Please help.

The message you are getting relates to your monitor not being able to display the images at the size/refresh ratio/color depth you choose.

It will probably be as simple as deleting the registry keys relating to the game from your computer.

1.Uninstall the game
2. Select Start/run
2. type 'regedit' and press enter
3. Select 'edit/find' from the menus
4. Enter the name of the game and enter.
5. delete the registry key that is found
6. If none found go back to 3 and type something different
in 4. Use shorter versions or directory names or the name of the compny that makes the software (be careful if you have more than one title by the same people).
7. reinstall the game.

As far as the saved cities I think you are in the clear. Most uninstall actions do not delete the data created by the software. This is because they work of the list of files that were installed ... since the saved cities are files that were NOT installed but created later, they do not get deleted. They may still be in the same directory they were created in.

If the procedure above does not solve the problem you can try unisntalling the software, deleting the directory form the computer (you may have to search for it), rebooting the computer and installing again (see note above about the saved games - you may wanna backup those)

Alright Diego. I tried what you wrote and when I type in 'regedit,' I get lots of folders and a box that reads Registry Editor. When I looked at some of the folders, I found one that reads Maxis (the maker of the game). However, only The Sims and SimCity4 are listed. Nothing for SimCity3000.

Also, instruction #3 is nowhere to be found. I am unable to type in anything to be found.

In case you can't follow the linky

Question
My screen resolution is too high. It won't let me into the game.

Answer
Make a shortcut to the SC3 .exe file in the game directory of the Sim Ctiy 3000 file to the desktop and add the -r640x480 switch to the end of it. You can then change the resolution in the game to what you like.

I presume you know what they are talking about (the r switch) or that it is explained in the users manual.
