Default Carolina winter driving

I've been reading the posts in general interest regarding the S and winter driving. This will be my first winter with it and was wondering what others' expericences have been during our southern winters? (Especially you Upstate folks!)

Thanks!

I drove mine all winter except for the moring of the big ice storm last january. The roads were a solid sheet of ice. Of course, when I called into work to tell them I wouldn't be coming in, my boss said the roads weren't bad and guilt-tripped me into coming in. 2 minutes from the house, going 12mph in 2nd gear, the back end started sliding to the left. I corrected it, then turned around and put the S back in the garage and waited for someone with a more roadworthy vehicle to come pick me up...

Just make sure your tires have plenty of tread left and adjust your speed in bad weather.

We're lucky to get any snow or ice down here. Happens maybe 2 or 3 times a winter and its usually nothing at all, so I would say your safe to drive it all winter.

I refuse to drive my S on the ice. It is far to valuable to me to risk it. Every year I have to drive the company vehicle (see sig. below) on ice but it does not belong to me. Also it is a lot safer if I get hit in that thing. Sliding around is inevitable in any vehicle with street tires on ice. I have seen so many vehicles sliding out of control across oncoming lanes and through intersections. Fortunately we never have more than three times a year in the carolinas when the streets ice over so I just have to find another way to work on those days. Snow is easier to drive in (except with S-02's) but here it usually turns to ice within a few hours. That has fooled many northerners experiencing their first southern winter.
