Big Events are DYING!
I've been loking at the Events forum and I'm SHOCKED that some of the most popular, well attended events have gone bye-bye. Fall Colors Tour is gone, Fresh Water Tour is gone, and the Southeast Super Meet was something less than SUPER in attendance.
Local Carolinas meets have been doing OK but the biggies have just DIED!
Except, of course, for Wake the Dragon and Dragon Ball Run thanks to our superior Community Organizer and a fabulous venue.
Everyone should be so lucky as us, huh.
Any guesses as to what's going on?

Perhaps everyone's work load has gotten more and more over-bearing and stressful and there's just not enough hours to squeeze everything in...??? I also agree with Dave about higher gas prices and, well, the higher costs of everything in general...
I'm just the noob here, and have really, really enjoyed everything I've been fortunate enough to attend so far, but I'm sure those bigger events are greatly missed and were a lot of fun...

Not to be crass, but perhaps...
But more to the point, I believe it comes down to how the big meets truly requiring pre-venue assembly of course leaders, separate trips/time in and of itself, to practice/learn routes and such. Takes a lot out of folks...especially out of those that work behind the curtains. Work all week at "the job"...only to invest more 'work time' into the planning of an event.
I think The Dragon wins because its a "There's the road!... HAVE AT IT! " mentality. Not that there isn't organization required for Dragon events as well... There is. Just not so very much as to burn a select few out perhaps?
Still, I can speak for myself here anyway. Give me "The Dragon" all day long for 2-3 days?! Shoooooooo... That's a no-brainer. But give me the same (or more) travel-time distance?... Then a couple hour road course... Then a dinner... Then auto-cross... Then... Well, then, I just wonder, 'What the hell happened to my weekend? And why wasn't I driving! enough?!!! ' Seriously...gimmie The Dragon
