I know in SC you can only do it once per county per year. You can plead Careless Operations and they'll drop the points but the fine will go up. It's worth a shot.

This way your insurance does not sky rocket.
IMO, unless you were driving [say] a Toyota Prius...with a 'stuck' gas pedal ...given that the cop witnessed you pass a SMV...that isn't really a defense you'd want to pursue.

I was thinking about that. I believe the cop said he left a note on the judges copy that he would allow him to drop it to only 2 points. Do you think that would be worth it to plead Careless Operations if it gets dropped to 2 points? The cop said the fine is currently $185.

That would be great if I could get them to drop the points for me at least, but how would you prove that in court?
You do not need to prove it. My wife told the public attorney that was there that she was a student. He said "not a problem". He went to the judge and said she is claiming improper equipment. The judge said that is fine, points dropped fine stay.

The next time she got a ticket she tried again and the judge says since you are under 21 you have to take a drivers course then you can claim improper equipment.

My wives excuse to me was she was studying and did not notice she was speeding. I laughed and told her to say that to herself 10 times in her head to see if it sounds like a good excuse.

Just get a lawyer, don't just pay the ticket. I'm pretty sure lawyer can get the charge down to improper equipment or something that won't hurt your insurance.

I've looked at that, but theyre like $400 or $500. The cop said something about getting it dropped to two points which still isn't good, but I'll see what I can get from the judge. Thanks for the help y'all.
