56k blues
I can remember a time when 56k modems came out. I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Years have passed and greater things came about. This week I moved and the cable won't be hooked up until the 29th. I signed up for an AOL account for a few days of free Internet. Its unbearable....its almost useless to get on this site with all the images on each page! I'm getting a laptop for Christmas too! Its gonna seem useless until the 29th! Just had to vent! Merry Christmas!!

When you get the laptop get one with built in wireless.
You may be lucky enough to have a neighbour with an open WAP..... Truly
free internet!!! (you may just have to walk around the place to find
the signal)
I have a co-worker that lives in the next building. He offered to let me use
his WAP while my DSL was relocated. I wasn't able to connect (too far) but
I found another neighbour with an open WAP. It made the 3 days bearable.
The only bad thing about it was that I could only connect from the middle of the living
room. That is fine for a laptop but not for a desktop!... my wife ony put up with
it because she surfs as much as I do!!
P.S. If the laptop comes without wireless you can always buy a card and return at Circuit City/compusa and return it a few days later...:-)
P.S. The connection will be much faster then dialup but large downloads may not work depending on how close you physically are to the WAP.

That was the first thing I tried this morning. If my neighbors do have a WAP, they must be too far away. I'm gonna go to a coffee shop later and try that out.
