3M Headlight restoration kit system is field tested
So last weekend Captain Kirk was out here at my place using my tools to use the 3M Headlight Restoration System he bought as his headlight were seriously nasty looking!! After I wisely let him do his first as I didn't wanna screw mine up as they were no where near as bad as his, I decided to do mine today in 4 hours outside under my carport in the rain! Well the results came out great and I wanna thank Kirk for going first I posted pics of what the headlights look like after each stage I completed, I forgot to take pics of the before duh! Its starts with a 500 grit dry sanding and you sand until the entire lens is free of yellowing and defects. Then onto a 800 grit dry sanding and you sand even again to reduce the rough sanding swirls from the previous 500 grit sanding disc. Then onto a special 3M Brand P3000 Trizact foam disc to wet sand to get rid of the swirls and rough sanding lines from the previous 500 grit sanding disc and thats were its clears up big time and when you start wet sanding it makes a white-ish slurry to let you know you are doing it right! And then finally onto a orange foam pad with the polishing compound and that polishes it smooth and clear to what you see in the pics below! So use with confidence everyone and it is time consuming as mine took 4 hours to finish them both today outside under my carport in the rain! LOL but it took Kirk even longer as his headlights were EXTREMELY nasty with yellow and defects galore!!

I love this kit. Used it on my buddies Jetta and it worked amazingly. His were terrible, and this made his look factory fresh. You have to take your time, but it will be well worth it. Do the sealant too; I didn't on his and the fading started to come back within 6-8 months.

Meguiars #10 and #17 do a pretty good job. Used to use it on the Lexan on the Space Shuttle. Tried it on my RX-8's headlights. Crystal clear. Except that its a bit easier. Just rub it in with a towel, takes about 5 minutes. Can use one of those sponges on a drillbit too. It was good enough for the shuttle...
