Jim, so does my wife's Verso, I guess it depends on how well sorted the car is!

Yeah, mine can be dangerous when trying to get onto say a roundabout quickly, bit of turbo delay then lots of wheelspin! And that with ESP turned on!!

The DSG will cope - same gearbox in the revised Audi S3.

Get it remapped and then just be more careful with your right foot.

No brainer for me really. I am just waiting for the funds to buy my SSTT (350bhp )

At normal speeds with no wheel spin it will be awesome.

MB - The only hot hatch currently with an LSD is the Megane R26. IIRC the new Focus RS will also have a new Quaiffe diff.

Indeed I am!

Never having owned a turbo-ed car before, and hence extracting any meaningful additional power always cost a fortune, it was a revelation to find out how much extra power you can by spending a few hundred quid on a remap....

I wouldn't have thought an additional 40-50bhp is going to unduly tax a GTi

I think I'd try and drive a remapped/chipped version of your car before making any decision

more power usually sounds seductive, but it could easily spoil what is supposed to be a very well balanced car

wheelspin from a standing start or intervening TC is just a pain

REVO will usually alloy a temporary 6 hour remap for free which is a good idea.

After the 6 hours the car just reverts back to the original mapping.

I imagine if there were internet car forums in the 70s, when the original Golf GTi came out there would be posts reading "120bhp in a FWD car - madness"
No there wouldn't; Citro

I wish I'd tried out the chip before getting an E46 330D chipped. The car was a minter with low mileage and the Superchip (not so in my case) ruined it. Kick down on the auto box suffered and I really regret getting it done. If you can find a place to give you a try before you buy scenario, definitely opt for this. It'd be such a shame to be disappointed afterwards, when you have such a lovely car in the first place

Thanks for the comments ....

I know someone who has just had one remapped - albeit a manual Edition 30. He had the work done by AmD and was really happy ... until he had some warranty work and they reflashed the ECU ! He now has to go back to AmD to get them to put the map back on ....

Once his car is sorted I will go out in it.

I am aware a remap could make the car less 'driveable' - I have had remapped/chipped cars before and one - a Nissan 200sx years ago - did not respond well and it made it less fun to drive. Thats why I like the idea of Revo or APR where you can go back to standard via a switch.

Moff - The Revo trial doesn't revert the car back to my standard map when the 6 hours driving is up - it goes to their 'standard' map which some say is less power than the real standard .... I don't really wish to find that out the hard way - though Revo have a superb reputation as they only specialise in VAG cars and I am very tempted.

I will badger the guy with the remap to take me out .... that should do it one way or the other I think
