What to get now the S has gone ?
So the S went on saturday and I am looking for a replacement.
I will be content with a minimum of 29mpg combined
Needs to be practical
Somewhat sporty/fun to drive.
I narrowed it down to either a Fiesta ST or a Civic Type R.
It's a short term car, a year at most.
Now the issue that is baffling me is....insurance.
The S cost me £1500 for a year.
The ST is £1800 and the Type R £2100.
Why this is I don't know.
Any particular car anyone recommends ? Diesels as an option too.
£3-5k budget.

Early 118d or 120d and map it. Won't be far behind the S2000 in power stakes and its RWD.
You should get over 50mpg combined easily too. Need to push hard or pay closer to 6k but return will be better in one year over the ST.
If FWD I would try a Megane225 Trophy, or maybe the 175DCI.

or 1 series
It's not a difficult decision really.
The 1 series is far better looking, better built & RWD.

One of these was behind me at the weekend - came out of no where, not surprising at 0 - 60 in 2.7 seconds!
But he was behind me!! Think this would definately have to be your fair weather car though!

Easily get a good quality Mk1 Octy vRS for your budget and they are great cars but you won't get the fuel economy you are after from it.
When I was driving hard I could barely get 18 from it, nearly 40 on a run.
Mine had a lot of engine mods though.

Fabia VRS is a good shout remapped, although cack inside they are pretty good for the money.

The BMW should be better looking!, a newer car and a lot more expensive than a Fabia, but there's no denying for the price the fabia its a cracking car, better built that's debatable.
