Default Went karting last night

Am now covered in bruises and my back is killing me...

But to add insult to injury i didn't even win... some little pip squeak weighting 40kg less than me beat me in the end, he started in pole and i got him on the first lap, but 3 laps later and i could shake him, a gentle tap on my rear and i ran wide.... couldn't catch the bugger after that...

Bah.... i hope his metabolisum slows down and he turns into a 5ft rolly polly munchkin....

not that i'm bitter

I believe smaller people have a big advantage in karting.

Past a certain age or size, you should give up any hope of competing with smaller than you.

So, did you have fun? This is all that matters really.

Weight is a killer in arrive and drive karting - especially those single engine 4 stroke ones....

5hp + 13stone = tailend charlie

If you got second to a scrawny guy and you're heavier than 13 stone, then that is a good result

Average rule of thumb when racing 30hp karts was 10kgs = 0.5sec a lap on the larger circuits.

This must be the only reason that Jo (Dreamer) overtook me when we last karted - obviously, being a girl, there's no way she's better than me

I love karting, there's a great circuit in Cambuslang in Glasgow I try to visit a couple of times a year (was meant to be once a month with a mate but it's never come together), and a shittier one closer to me.

You find that if you keep it going once a month your muscles are far less painful if at all afterwards, and you can concentrate more on the driving.

There's a good outdoor one near Edinburgh that uses twin-engined (Honda Powered) karts. That elimates the weight issue but it's touch and go with the kart you get. You get to use, up to, 4 different karts during the grand prix and each one always feels different.

The first few times I went I always finished poorly in the final race (not the 3 qualifiers). Last time I was doing well after everyone crashed at the hairpin (corner 2). I then hit a corner too fast (tyres not warmed up on lap 1) and I spun 180 and had to watch all 15 fellow kart'ers go past me

Karting's great fun though, worth the soreness afterwards!
