Urgent private plate tf info needed
My car has been sold to a private buyer but my car has a private plate on it that needs to be put on retention. I need to complete the transaction by next wednesday but dvla tell me that a new v5 document could take 6 weeks which is no good to me or the new the owner. Is there a way to do it all simultaneosly?
Thanks

In practice, it can often be done in 7-10 days. It was done in around a week when I took the private plate off mine before sale.
I don't think you can do it over the counter at DVLA local offices any more - even if you attend in person, you have to leave the documents with them and they then process them and return them by post.
The only way I can see you're going to be able to proceed with the sale next week is to separately agree with the new owner that he will take whatever steps are required to remove the plate and have it placed on retention in your name after the sale is completed. Not ideal, but no great hassle either as long as you can trust the guy.
