I have had a lot of beaters over the last few years. They have been getting bigger and bigger as I have found that small economical cars are very much in demand and hold their value well.
Bigger cars (in my opinion) are now fabulous value for money. At the moment I have a C Class Merc 2.4V6. Point and cruise motoring in a lump of granite and reliable as hell. All for

Although I have just got an XJ6 for cheap money to do motorway munching to work each day for myself 100 round trip that is though

Mid 20s is no different to what you'd get at best in the S, plus I am guessing you find the jag a little bit more "relaxing" for the long journey.
