And on that note, I needed a car for a short commute to work, but not sure how long for (certainly 6 months) and it was one of these Golf beasts vs a £5k runround.
It came down to some man maths and a bit of heart vs head, but I looked at £6k for 2 years on a very nice Golf but nothing to show for it after 2 years, vs a runaround which may break, but could be worth the same price after the same period of time.
I have opted for the runaround option and will be interesting to see how it pans out. Will post up a new thread shortly
But echoes with your thoughts Nick!

I'll spend a lot more than £200 a month on my old nails over the next two years but if I had some in warranty new car instead I'd be bored rigid.

Hope so. Doris has gone half in with me and the first time it breaks / doesn't start it will be 'I told you so'
Even if the engine goes pop, stick a used one in for 2k and still likely make back the value of the car after a year. Basically you can afford to blow a few k on it and still not lose vs a lease. There's deffo pros and cons, but will be interesting to see if the gamble pays off.
Funnily enough we've seen about 5 Golf Rs since
deciding and hoping it's not an omen
(Apologies for thread diversion)

Good job you didn't make any money on that Porsche to cover such wanton foolishness
