Bet you though that honda vtec engine is years ahead of the vw offering.
Miles behind with interior quality. Miles behind in F1. Miles ahead with Hybrid bollox - that's the problem. Honda lost their mojo after cocking up the last of the S2000's from 08-09. Even then, they were less than honest in dealing with engine issues to what was an "almighty quiet cover up" (A bit like BMW with the N47 failures).

People have grouped together to decide on a cars' design. People can get it completely wrong, even though it is 2015. Sack them I say, bring back Honda's supremo's from the 80's & 90's. It might even spur on their F1 revival!

Moving away from the brilliant GTD though...

Looking at the R deals currently - they are enticing, to say the least.

£213.76 inc vat a month, if you cough up a mere £2565 upfront and stick it on a 5,000 per annum personal lease.
£257.99 inc vat a month, if you cough up £1547 upfront. Gets closer to £300 a month at £800 upfront.

I saw the new Type R today pass me by on the motorway. Hideous thing, it's a complete embarrassment of a thing. Perhaps it will grow on me. But like the '86, perhaps it won't. I'm really not liking what's coming out of Japan at the moment - some of their best cars look "rushed".
Pretty good, is this via a broker? I went direct to my dealer and they beat the brokers as ditched the admin fee.

I am on 287 a month with 561 down, which included the first month, so sort of a 274 deposit. (3+23)

It was a stonking deal at the time. They were £400+ on lings a few months ago.

Agree, the new Type R is hideous. I just can't see the market for it, not that many true enthusiasts and not many punks with that sort of money. It's just miles away from other finance options available on it's competitors.

Sure, lots seem to hate the Golf, which is a bit weird as not much to hate. Not a great deal to love as it's very 'good' but not exciting, but value is what is selling them, which it seems the Civic is just not in the same market.
Car leasing online.com. Its where I obtained my GTD from.

If i'm honest, it wasn't the best service in the world. I had a bit of a run around with Craig who handled the order, as he'd initially promised me one within 2 weeks. Turned out to be complete rubbish to get the sale, and ended up as 4 months waiting. But I got money off as compo.

Nothing wrong with Golf's, they are irritating good and I suppose the commonest flaw is a slight lack of steering feedback, a bit overly damped which can affect confidence. But that's most of VAG groups cars, and has been for many years.

Lings is dear now, not the value that the punter can consider. They had some red FN2 Type R's on Lings though 18 months ago, going for £199 a month. Not bad value and I was tempted, but just put off by the overall FN2 as a package. It would never compare or be as great as my old ATR in my opinion, despite being quicker.

Where were those deals?

Is that on a 2 or 3 year deal?
Both 2 year deals

the front end of the Civic is ok, very agressive and defo it's best angle, the side / rear is awful to my eye and there is no way in the world that I would want one of my drive. I don't doubt it's performance, but as a package it just won't work.

The stats wont lie, will be interesting to see how many they shift in a year compared to the M135i, Golf R etc. If they sold 10% of either of those I am sure they would be happy, but suspect that will be a stretch.

interesting quote from PH today

"It is perhaps fair to say that the PH office isn't all that convinced by what is, for now, VW's hottest of hot Golfs. The major criticism of the car is that it is, well, too damn good. Seriously. Ladies and gentlemen, we appear to have reached the point where cars are so talented that being "too good" is a reason for them being marked down as "not as good as they could be."

i'm at the point where that GT86 becomes more attractive. over the last year or so i've been lucky enough to drive some very 'desirable' cars, lots of different stuff and the thing i've driven in the last 5 years that i enjoyed most was

the least powerful
the cheapest
the altogether crappest looking thing

a Caterham

so i've decided i'm gonna find one. I totally understand the too good comment. My M3 could be driven by a complete weapon at warp speed. A guy on cutters was raving about it on track but i just dont see it. the Golf R is a very similar thing i imagine.

Indeed and that's why if I were in boyracer mode I would buy the civic...
