Default Stirling Moss

Didn't really know much about him but recently read the article in CAR magazine.

It's the 52th anniversary of his historic win in the Mille Miglia classic road race

Wow...............what a guy

Isn't he known as the greatest driver never to have won the F1 title? A bit like Button and Coulthard in that respect.

I don't think so. This is in the day when these guys risked their lives for the sport in every race.

Moss was the first Brit to win the MM in '55. He drove the 992 miles in just over 10hrs and avaraged nearly 100mph, in a road race! He raised the average speed recod by 9mph; the record was never beaten.

He finished the '55 F1 WC in 2nd place, to Fangio.

His career ended at the age of 32 when he crashed his Lotus at Goodwood, after setting a new lap record. It took the rescuers 40mins to release him from the wrackage.

Coulthard and Button...............pah

I don't doubt he was a fearless competitor, what I meant was more the fact that the Brits love him but he never actually produced a title.

He never won a world title, that is a fact.

But he's a champion in my book.

I agree he was one of the best in a period of time when Motor Racing was completly removed for what passes a s a Grand Prix today.
Stirling Moss still drives at event like the Goodwppd Revival.
