Speeding Not Main Cause of Crashes
Spotted this research in the paper the other day but could only find it on Norwich Union's website. It's the police's own research into the causes of accidents.
http://www.nu-riskservices.co.uk/news/arti...722023482_1.htm
As expected it's not speed that kills but lack of attention, "inappropriate" use of speed but below the limit and a whole load of other things.
Proof that cameras are absolutely no replacement for having police out on the roads who can stop drivers, bikers, cyslists for every offence not just one.

One of the recent stories:
BBC News Article
So, excessive speed, which includes inappropriate, but 'legal' speed is responsible for 26% of fatal accidents of which 12% is attributed to speeding, and therefore 14% to inappropriate speed. For all accidents, only 15% are caused by excessive speed. That would mean only speeding is the main cause in about 7-8% of all accidents.
Makes sense to persecute speeders then eh?
Morons.

The TRRL did some research years ago;
Lack of due care turning right & failure to obey sign/signal are the biggest causes, way ahead of exceeding an arbitrary velocity.
Philosophically, the entire concept of 'speeding' is bunk. But it is profitable.
