well i've had over a year and around 14,000 glorious miles in the S2000 and around 1,000 painfull ones after having to run in a new short block (at huge expense), and now my feet are starting to itch......
i can afford anything up to nearly 30k on a car (if im not sensible) but i'd like to keep it at 22-23k max and i need some help. i have a lust for more of a sportscar experience - more power and more noise, but it must be able to go topless. fortunately i'll be getting the train/tube to work and marks and spencer is only 3 mins walk away so practicallity isn't too much of an issue. as you can see i need some help and advice, i've thought of several options - all involve more power:weight, and all can go topless, the S2000 is still there but it would have to be a 2004+ with a blower although i don't really fancy modding the car. i don't want to make a silly decision where the heart rules the head, but here are my options in order of preference.

guys you supposed to talk me out of the TVR option. as for the boxter S - i can't afford one that would be noticeably better than an S2000 i.e. a 987 - ideally a 2007.

I'd have a 996 with the GT3 aerokit. In black or silver.
Chancers are it would be a lot more reliable than a TVR too.
It's just the Porsche-thing. I recon people would cut you up and give you the bird a lot in a 911. Whereas I recon everyone loves a TVR.

I have to say (having had an S, A VX220, the use of a 2001 Tuscan S with a 406bhp Red Rose conversion and now a 'tweaked' 330i Sport) that I would have an E46 M3 (significantly quicker than my 330 - which is fast enough!).
- The S was great but for me, didn't tick all of the boxes.
- The VXT (mentioned because of it's similarities as an ownership proposition to the Elise) was sublime in the handling department, but practicality IS an issue - Don't let anyone tell you it's not (3-4 medium sized bags of shopping MAX go in the boot)! I guarantee that any 'girly' girls in your life WILL hate you for the effort required to get in/ out.
- The Tuscan I drove regularly (owned by my long-term mate and neighbour) was a bit, er, rubbish. Sure it looks nice and is different but the brakes are wooden, the steering too quick and over-assisted (shat myself doing 130 (kmh) on a bumpy A-Road) and the interior smells like a speedboat (fibreglass resin). The rear window leaked like a sieve and the air-con was shocking! It also didn't feel as savage as 400+bhp should have! odd...
Whereas, the M3 is all thing to all men: a practical four seat coupe body with manageable running costs and safe handling on one hand and on the other, a sideways hooligan when the DSC is switched off!
I think the M3 is a real performance bargain, offering all the performance and reliability of a 911 at a lower price!
Seriously, I'm converted: speed AND refinement are the way forward...
