This would be ideal?

Better move fast though, there's already a queue.

Hope this suggestion is useful.

If not charming ...

E46 M3 can do 30mpg on long runs (you'll average around 26 though)

running costs aren't too bad as long as you keep mileage low and buy one that's just had an inspection II service. Great cars.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm trying to decide on one of the following:

Remapped mk V GTI - probably the best alrounder.
330i M Sport - maybe a bit grown up for me yet.
Alfa 147 GTA - understeer, unsure of reliability. Looks great, great engine. Weirdly always fancied one. Now very cheap.

Not so keen on the impreza idea. Tried one recently (04 WRX ppp) and it rolled too much, had a terrible interior and was meant to be shocking on fuel.

What do 330d's remap to ? Would be the later 204bhp one.

Still may go for the M3. Still pretty scared of running costs though.

It's not too bad, as far as FWD goes..... not massive torque steer unless you're ham-footed and/or try to boot it in the wet.
the hard sell

We're all on here because we have/had/want a lightweight RWD sportscar. The Focus is never going to compare in the handling stakes so I wouldn't want to try to kid the OP - but it's not bad either!
