Default Servicing a Lease Car

First time of sorting this, my agreement has no service plan, so I am funding this myself.

Bristol Honda was £215 for a first year service, aka oil and filter change.

Halfords Autocentre £69.99 + £4 enviro charge.

I rang Lex to check it was ok to use Halfords and they said it's fine.

What are Honda playing at? they told me the oil cost more than £80 alone. Really? 4 litres of oil for a CRV over £80? pull the other one.

Booked into Halfords.

Good tip - I am about to book a service for my 'no service plan' lease car.

I have another question....the car is on a 2 yr. lease, it will be due its next service around the time I hand it back - do I have to have to put the car through this 2yr service?

ok... too good to be true? yes.

The price halfords quoted was for an 'oil change' and didn't include the quick 'look' over the rest of the car that an interim service entails... so that was £99.00 plus £22 for the 'special honda oil'. £122.

Honda are pricematching this so it's going to main dealer after all.

As for 2nd service question, I had the same concern and spoke with Lex this morning, I said I intended to return the car a day or so before it was due it's second service so I didn't have to service it... seemed like no-one had asked that question before and I didn't get a definitive answer, so will check before I give it back. I'm in the same position, 2 year lease and I have to pay for maintenance.

Luckily, we won't need tyres as do barely any miles (4500 in first year!), so no cost there either.

Checked my lease contract...I have to service the car with VW.

But the VW dealer wont know this, so I shall get a quote from Halfords and see if they will match.

Re. the 2 year service - I spoke to Lings (who arranged my lease - whilst quirky, they are v. good) and without being categorical about it, the 'steer' they gave me was very much the same as you suggest - had the car back a day or 2 early and it will be fine.

I handed back my previous lease car a few days before its service and first MOT was due, neither of which I had done, and I didn't hear a thing from anyone regarding it.

At the end of the day if the service isn't due when you hand it back then it isn't your responsibility, even if it is due the following day, the car ceases to be your responsibility the day the lease ends.

not a lease car but nevertheless

Sytner BMW wanted £570 to service my M3

I checked for same thing on maindealerdiscount.co.uk

£380 best price

Rang Sytner - wont match, outside our 'catchment' £510

Offered to take me own oil.. ok £350

The oil is sub £70 retail (it takes a lot) but they can knock £160 off an already reduced price? wtf?

Really just confirms what many of us have suspected for years.

i think they just build a stupid amount of fat into the price

i realise the car will be expensive to run but £240 for an oil change? you are jacking me off.
