what does the GPS detector do ? do you download the location on a reg basis?. what about portable speed traps etc ? or does the GPS detector have a radar detector and a database ?

I have a Snooper S6 Neo.
Ironically, it is great at detecting 'planes if you are going uphill on a clear day! Fortunately, I've had no call to use the detector.
TBH, with the modern radar guns, you're probably f ucked anyway.
In fact, I can't ever recall it going off near Talivans, but I think they shoot you up th arse for that reason.
It's a bit crap at finding the satellites these days; the scamera d-base on TomTom is far more useful.
TBH, I'll probably bin it when the subscription expires.

i have a b2.. that's gps, yes you subscribe and download updates every 2 weeks or so in my case.
no false alarms unlike a radar detector.
scamera vans use laser, it has a detector for this.
i'd recommend it, knows about all the scameras near me..

I agree with Composite, a mate of mine pointed these out to me last week as I mentioned Mrs Rteyp's uncanny ability to get nicked !
Small, easy to remove/fix, cheap updates (

if you would find sat nav useful then for less than 200 quid you can get a tomtom one and download camera details for a small subscription from http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/
This is probably the route that I will go down but I have just read about these: http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=247066 which are mini PDA phones with built in GPS recievers so I may wait a bit...

I've done exactly what Wingnut suggests & it's better than these gadgets!
Radar Hate.

Then depending on model and database supplier you can get warnings of all different type of scamera and on some models you can set the satnav only to alert you if you are travelling a tad too quickly. The only downside is it will tell you about mobile locations which may not be manned. However with modern laser technology by the time a detector see it you're nicked anyway. Much the same with radar based devices like Gatso. A detector relies on picking up a reflected signal from the radar. Sometime by the time the gatso is detected you're right on top of it.
