Just how the spindles are on the standard VW stuff. Just needs the nuts changing out from the clamp up ally ones.

They run an aluminium nut that clamps up with the screw through it like this. Time to ditch those.

R Clips or if not possible a double roll pin <one inside other fitted offset ie at 180 deg> works well

Just gonna use a single roll pin. The cap over the top bolts on and will stop it backing out anyway.

I'm surprised much aluminium near your wheels would last that long but ally nuts sound a bad idea to me full stop

I reckon this is the most expensive pet project on the site by far (I'm assuming it doesn't make you money)

Oh no, definately doesn't make money, well, sorta, it gets us jobs from other racers fairly often after they see it, I guess it's almost advertising. Don't think it's anywhere near the most expensive though, half the people in the FI forum spend more on turbo kits than this cost

No, aluminium nuts are never a good idea usually, too much stress in a small area (although the entire hub, brake bells and wheel is aluminium, of course) but this is an old, well proven design from the original parts - much like aluminium centre lock nuts on race wheels (which it used to run on the back as hub nuts too at one point) - but we really should have thought to life the nuts, or switch them out, bit of an oversight on our part that one.

I watched the guy Martin show on C4 where they rebuilt a landie and did a much lighter version of what you are doing. Think they said about 180bhp, it was a lot slower and quite pricey given they threw most of it away.

Looked a laugh though.

Yes, I remember that, I think it was with the Staffs and Shrops club, local area club in the midlands, pretty much the same stuff but it's a bit slower than some of the events we go to (40mph average course instead of 50mph) - the same as the event at Tong we did for the first one this year.

Generally the same vehicles that hop around all the clubs though.
